Türk Telekom International (TTI) and Telin Sign SEA-ME-WE 5 Capacity Exchange Agreement to Explore Joint Business Opportunities

Chicago, USA 15th May, 2017: Türk Telekom International (TTI),a leading telecommunication operator across Central & Eastern Europe, Turkey, Caucasus, and the Middle East and PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia International (Telin)signed a SEA-ME-WE 5 Capacity Exchange Agreement to explore joint business opportunities and geographic synergies between two leading telecommunications companies.

This agreement will facilitate Telin to land its SEA-ME-WE-5 (SMW5) capacity at Turkey Marmaris Cable Landing Station (CLS) and to extend its network coverage into Turkey, Central and Eastern European countries and the Caucasus region as well. On the other hand, TTI will also be able to further enhance its SEA-ME-WE 5capacity between Turkey and Europe.

This partnership marks a very important milestone as it signifies the start of a long-term cooperation between TTI and Telin to better serve the Indonesian government bodies, Indonesian enterprises and business communities in Europe and the Middle East Region. It will also enhance the IP connectivity performance between South Asian countries and local internet exchanges in Europe and the Middle East region.

Witnessing this agreement signing, Mr. Abdus Somad Arief, CEO of Wholesale and International Business of Telkom Group, believes “This collaboration will benefit both corporations, and we expect more successful relationship between Telin and TTI in the future.”

“We are delighted to have entered into this SEA-ME-WE 5 Capacity Exchange Agreement to explore mutually beneficial business opportunities for our two companies. This agreement demonstrates the unique advantages of TTI’s SEA-ME-WE 5 solution to cover large number of European, Balkans and Caucasus countries with lower latency and better network performance. It also highlights the cooperation opportunities between TTI and Asian operators like Telin with vast network coverage” – explains Mr. Mehmet Toros, Chairman of the TTI Group Management Board.

TTI provides a full range of Internet/data services, infrastructure and wholesale voice services to telecom carriers and service providers, as well as mobile operators, cable-TV companies, Internet service providers and corporate customers. The company is 100% owned by Türk Telekom and covers 20 countries in Central & Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Caucasus, as well as Turkey itself.

A subsidiary of PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia (Telkom), Tbk, Indonesia’s state-owned telecommunication and network service provider, Telin is establishing its position as global hub for telecommunication infrastructure, focuses on international telecommunication business and serves as Telkom’s business arms in managing and developing its business lines abroad. With presence in USA, Middle East, Asia and Australia, Telin has the capability to offer specific and unique solutions, tailored to each market.

The SEA-ME-WE 5 subsea cable system, spanning over 17 countries from Southeast Asia to Western Europe, is a technological breakthrough. It is designed with a capacity of 24 Terabits per second on 3-fibre pairs, fully capable of accommodating the future demand of data from other bandwidth-intensive applications such as enterprise data exchange, internet TV and online gaming.

The SEA-ME-WE 5 submarine cable’s advanced 100Gbps technology is expected to meet the quadrupling of bandwidth demand between Europe and Asia, providing the lowest latency and further enhancing the network diversity and resilience to the heavily loaded Asia to Europe route. In contrast with other submarine cable systems, the SEA-ME-WE 5’s main endpoints are carrier-neutral/open Points-of-Presence (PoPs) and not just Cable Landing Stations (CLS).
This submarine cable system won the Project of the Year – Subsea award at the Global Carrier Awards in Paris in November 2016 for its technological and managerial excellence.
